More Than Just a Decoration: How to Properly Maintain and Check Your AED

An AED is one of the most vital pieces of safety equipment you can own, but its value only exists if it works the moment it is needed. At Starlight Promedic Hub, we often tell our clients: “An AED shouldn’t just be a decoration on the wall.” Regular maintenance is the key to ensuring operational readiness.

While modern AEDs are highly intelligent and perform daily or weekly self-tests, they still require human oversight. The two most critical components to monitor are the Battery and the Electrode Pads. Both have expiration dates, typically ranging from two to five years. Expired pads may have dried-out gel, failing to adhere to the skin or conduct electricity properly, while a depleted battery will render the unit useless during an emergency.

So, what should you do to maintain your device? First, perform a visual check of the Status Indicator once a month. Most AEDs have a green light or a checkmark indicating they are ready for use. If you see a red light or hear a beeping sound, it’s time for a professional check-up. Secondly, keep a maintenance log to track the expiration dates of your accessories.

At Starlight, we take pride in our comprehensive after-sales support. We offer maintenance packages and reminders to ensure your equipment is always compliant and ready for action. We believe that professional equipment deserves professional care.

Don’t wait for an emergency to find out if your AED works. Let Starlight help you stay prepared, stay compliant, and stay safe.
